wars have been fought in the world in pursuit of it. Gold is generally found in
alluvial sands and metamorphic rocks. South Africa is the largest producers of
gold in the world. In the year 2003, the amount of gold extracted from the
mines was 259 million kilograms out of which 123 million kilograms are in
circulation, 32 million kilograms are in the central banks while 91 million
kilograms have been preserved in the homes in the form of ornaments and coins.
