Cotton is an important cash crop of Pakistan and is cultivated on ten per cent of the total area under cultivation in the country. On account of agricultural backwardness, the per acre production is 20 to 30 Muns which is very low in terms of global production. In servant countries of the world including Australia, Egypt and Turkey the per acre production is 60 to 70 Muns. The per acre production of cotton in Pakistan has increased as a result of the recent agricultural reforms but still, it is much less than that of other major cotton growing countries of the world.
